Dragan Karadžić, painter, born in Petnjica, Savnik on April 9th 1950.
He graduated at the Teachers’ College (Art Major) in Niksic in 1974. He graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1978, in the class of Professor Radenko Misevic where he also completed his post-graduate studies in 1980. He was given an advanced training scholarship by the French government and at the Academie des Beaux Arts in Paris, under the tutelage of professor Jacques Yankel he completed specialist studies in 1981/1982.
He was on study tours in Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Greece and USA.
In the period from 1971 to 1981 he took part in the process of conserving frescoes in Stara Pavlica, Karan and Arilje.
In the period 1986–1990 he teaches at the Faculty of Philosophy in Niksic (Department for Fine Arts Education, subject-Painting) and from 1990 he starts working at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje as assistant professor and later on as associate professor. Since 2002 he has been full professor at the University of Montenegro. He was vice dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje in the period 1983–1987 and dean in the period 1994–1996. He was member of the group Generation 9.
He had 53 individual exhibitions (paintings, drawings, photos) at home and abroad — Belgrade, Novi Sad, Sombor, Zrenjanin, Sarajevo, Nova Gorica, Kragujevac, Cacak, Podgorica, Niksic, Budva, Skopje, Paris, Hamilton…
He has participated at more than 300 group exhibitions in most Yugoslav centres as well as in Paris, Vienna, Brussels, Stuttgart, Mannheim, Oslo, Nicosia, Bucharest, Koshice, Malta, Gutersloh, Cairo, Tokyo, Hamburg, Rome, Bari, Sofia, Beijing, Washington, Moscow, Cologne, Vienna, Linz, Odessa, Lvov, Innsbruck…
He was awarded 22 prizes, among which are: the July 13th Award of the Republic of Montenegro, 1995; the Milunovic, Stijovic, Lubarda Award at the Traditional Exhibition of the Association of Fine Artists of Montenegro in 1997 and 1999; the Distinguished Cultural Creators Charter, 2010.
He was elected associate member of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts on December 6th 1996 and became regular member of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts on December 12th 2003.
Since 2011 he has the status of prominent cultural creator of Montenegro.
In 1977 he became member of the Association of Fine Artists of Montenegro and was Secretary of this Association in the period 1983–1987.
He lives in Podgorica.
